Dear Referral agent,
I am writing with information about BCM who are operating in the Armagh and Dungannon area, I have worked with BCM for the past 6 years in our Housing Support for Young People service in Dungannon and Armagh. As Christmas is fast approaching I wanted to remind you of our work so that you can refer any clients who could benefit from additional support particularly in relation to housing support.
Housing Support for Young People operates in Armagh and Dungannon (the legacy trust area). We work with young people aged 16-25 (they can be parents within this age group too) who are homeless (includes sofa surfing/hidden homeless), want to move out of the family home, leaving care, or experiencing difficulties in relation to their tenancies.
Support is offered in a range of areas, including:
• managing tenancy and accommodation: accessing and maintaining accommodation, anti-social behavior, home safety and security etc
• self-care and living skills (cooking, cleaning, shopping, obtaining items for their home)
• budgeting, money, benefit entitlement, grants
• mental and physical health (registering with GP/Dentist, support to attend appointments, signposting to specialist services.
• education, training and employment
Service users will be provided with a dedicated support worker, and can avail of the service for up to two years. The projects are user led and based upon the needs of the service users.
To access the service, young people must want the support of the service, referrals can be made directly by the applicant, by social services, NIHE or by any community, statutory and voluntary organisations.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you require further information about the service, leaflets to display or to discuss a potential referral. We can also arrange to come and talk to your team and deliver a short presentation if you wish.
We currently can accept referrals for young people 16-25 who require housing support and this encompasses a wide range of areas such as independent living skills, physical and emotional health, money management, motivation, support networks, managing tenancies and meaningful use of time.
Our parent support services aims to promote parental competency by offering practical and emotional support and works with parents of all ages who have a child aged 0-17. Referrals are accepted through health visiting teams and the family support hubs as it is an early intervention service.
Should you have older clients (60 plus) then BCM also operate a housing support service for older people and information on this service can be acquired by contacting the office.
