The training is open to anyone who supports a person with dementia (this can be a friend, family member, neighbour or anyone you know).

The training is designed to improve knowledge, skills and understanding of those supporting/caring for someone with dementia. It allows for peer support and a shared learning experience in a safe accessible environment. Each session will accommodate a maximum of 20 participants and it is proven to be most effective if you are able to attend all sessions.

We will look at the following over the 6 weeks

Module 1 – What is Dementia?: a chance to meet the other participants and share experiences. Key aspects of Dementia and its impacts.

Module 2   – Legal and Financial Issues: explores legal and financial issues to help you understand the importance of planning for the future.

Module 3 – Learning to Manage: insight into the impact of dementia and how to cope.

Module 4 – Communication – behaviour, ability and communication – understanding and awareness of the issues.

Module 5 – Personal Care and Wellbeing: Considering the support needs of the person with dementia and how these needs might be met

Module 6 – Available Services: What help is available locally and how to access it.

It can be that coming to these groups can seem somewhat daunting for some people . If there is anything that could be done to make this easier for you to attend we will try to arrange this.
