WOMAD returns to the East for Belfast Music Week

The World Of Music Arts & Dance will have a welcome return to the Skainos Centre East Belfast Friday 14th November, when schools from Lisburn, Banbridge & North Down present their performances and artwork at the WOMAD outreach programme winter showcase.

The event runs from 10am – 3pm and is open to everyone of all ages to attend and see the wonderful World Music, Arts and Dance performances the young people have been learning in the outreach programme.

The Island Arts Centre Lisburn have already hosted a taster showcase event with Lisburn Schools supported by Lisburn City Council paving the way for the Skainos event in an unprecedented shared project between two civic centres.

North Down Council’s PEACE III programme has funded a school programme in Kilcooley, the Big Lottery Fund supporting WOMAD workshops in Kinallen and the Community Relations Council has assisted with funding relating to the whole event.

All of these schools will merge at Skainos, for the third WOMAD outreach showcase event to be hosted in Belfast this year, promising to bring a unique range of world cultures to the East of the city. An invite extends to everyone the chance to take part in a variety of free WOMAD workshops in Aboriginal, Indian, Polish, & African arts to name but a few.

The event has been hosted and managed by Beyond Skin, who will be helping WOMAD work towards a full outreach programme over the next few years.
