Belfast Metropolitan College recognises that people who are seeking asylum face particular barriers in accessing education including limited access to funding.

The College is pleased to offer a full scholarship to cover the cost of course fees for a number of students who are registered asylum-seekers in the UK, and who will be starting their studies at Belfast Metropolitan College in the academic year 2022-23.

Eligibility

To apply for the Sanctuary Scholarship Award, students must first apply for, and receive an offer of admission for the academic year 2022-23 to a full-time programme of study at Belfast Metropolitan College and meet the eligibility criteria below:

  1. You must be a registered asylum seeker in the UK and must currently live in Northern Ireland, to be considered for this scheme.
  2. You must be unable to access mainstream UK student funding due to your immigration status i.e. you are not eligible for Student Finance* for the 2022-23 academic year.
  3. You must have submitted an application for a place of study and been accepted onto a full-time course at Belfast Metropolitan College starting in the academic year 2022-23.

*N.B. Please note that if you have already been granted Refugee Status or Humanitarian Protection Status as the result of an asylum application, you may be eligible to apply for financial support from Student Finance NI. 

Amount

The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition fees for the 2022-23 academic year.
