The Bamford Vision for Northern Ireland puts a recovery approach at the centre of all mental health and learning disability interventions.
WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) is a self directed recovery approach to monitor uncomfortable, distressing feelings and behaviours, through planned responses, reducing, modifying or eliminating them.
It also includes plans for responses from others when you are unable to make decisions for yourself.
It is simple and safe for anyone to use, regardless of the severity of their difficulties. It can be utilised for all mental health conditions, as well as physical illnesses.
The WRAP approach focuses on the holistic traits of the person, not the condition or illness.
It is used worldwide and has been in operation from 1997.
It operates under 15 guiding values and ethics
WRAP includes:
- Wellness Toolbox
- Daily Maintenance Plan
- Triggers and Action Plan
- Early Warning Signs and Action Plan
- When Things are Breaking Down and Action Plan
- Crisis Planning
- Post Crisis Planning
It embraces the key concepts of:
- Hope
- Personal responsibility
- Education
- Self advocacy
- Support
When participants undertake this two day course, they will have their own WRAP and it also allows them to facilitate a WRAP one-to-one with anyone else.
