Fix the Digital Status campaign

‘Immigration Minister Seema Malhotra pushed back the full extension of eVisas, quoting fears of travel chaos and another Windrush-style scandal among minority communities.

This is a crucial moment, as for the last six years the3million have been tirelessly pointing out the flaws of this system, how it has failed EU citizens in the UK and proposing well considered solutions.

Since the Home Office started asking all migrants to register for eVisas, in their plan to extend the system to everyone by the end of 2024, we’ve been analysing systemic issues, based on the reports people have been sending us through www.evisa-problems.org.uk.

the3million met with the Minister last week to once again raise these issues and we welcome this week’s eleventh hour reprieve. Family members of EU citizens who have Biometric Residence Cards (BRC) will be allowed to use expired documents to travel until at least March 2025. The same is the case for everyone who has a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) under any immigration route.

More information can be accessed through the resource hub on the evisa website: https://www.evisa-problems.org.uk/resource-hub

Help us raise awareness of those issues and get through to the decision makers!

TEMPLATE LETTER

Are you traveling this Christmas? Are you coming back home to the UK after the holidays? Here is a simple, yet effective way to raise the alarm to your MP and ask them to fix the digital status:
• Take a selfie at the airport or train station you are traveling from.
• Share it on social media with a simple message, sharing that you are worried about traveling back home because you have to rely on a digital only status for proof
• Tag your MP
• Include #FixTheDigitalStatus
Example:
“On my way back home to the UK. @MyMP because of the #eVisa system, I have no physical proof of my immigration status. What if there’s an error on my account and the airline denies me boarding?
It’s time to listen and #FixTheDigitalStatus.”
