BLACK ACTIVISM: WORKING IN SOLIDARITY FOR RIGHTS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE
Are you interested in working for social change, human rights and justice in Northern Ireland?
Have you got an idea of projects or initiatives that would make a difference?
Do you want to work with others to change things for the better?
Do you want to grow your activist leadership skills?
If so, SCI (Social Change Initiative) wants to hear from you.
SCI is an independent organisation, based in Belfast, that works both locally and internationally to support activism and advocacy for Human Rights & Equality, Refugee & Migrant Rights and Peacebuilding. We believe that social justice activism can make a difference.
How to become part of the SCI Activist Network:
SCI supports a Black Activist Leadership Group to identify and engage in projects that will improve life opportunities in Northern Ireland. We are looking to expand that group. Participation will be particularly welcome from individuals who are motivated by one or more of the following interests –
- Have ideas that they want to develop into projects that will enhance the life experience of the Black community.
- Feel strongly about issues and want to engage in advocacy to change things.
- Are interested in using music, arts and culture to challenge current disinformation and perceptions.
This is a call to join an informal programme of support that is directed by participant interests and time commitments. There are no costs involved apart from your willingness to take part in programme activities. SCI can cover any costs in making participation accessible to people and can also offer some seeding funds to facilitate participants developing their ideas.
What We Need from You:
To be considered for the programme, you must be over the age of 18 years and living in Northern Ireland. The programme will run from November 2025-October 2026.
We are looking for people who are prepared to give a commitment of time, interest and the drive to work for progressive social change. For our part we can offer both personal and project support as well as linking you with an international network of changemakers.
How to Express Interest:
Please complete the Expression of Interest Form and return it to Avila Kilmurray (a.kilmurray@socialchangeinitiative.com) or post it to – SCI, 3rd Floor, Wellington Buildings, 2-4 Wellington Street, Belfast BT1 6HT by  Monday 24th November, 2025
