The Department for Communities is developing an Anti-Poverty Strategy for Northern Ireland. It has received an Expert Panel Report which makes a range of recommendations. You can read it here: https://www.communities-ni.gov.uk/publications/report-anti-poverty-strategy-expert-advisory-panel
The Department has also established a co-design group to advise it. The Equality Commission is a member of this group. As part of our membership, we are facilitating a feedback session with people from ethnic minority backgrounds. The purpose is to gather information from those with lived experience of poverty and disadvantage. The information provided by participants will be collated by us and passed to the Department for Communities to inform its development of the Anti-Poverty Strategy.
Topics for discussion will include:
- How barriers to participation and inclusion in society can be addressed.
- The supports and services that are needed but aren’t in place currently.
- What government needs to change to make life better for people living in poverty and disadvantage.
If you would like to attend, the feedback session on 21 April from 11-12.30pm via MS Teams, please click here to book a place. Please contact Cynthia Rice (email@example.com) if you require any further information or assistance with your booking.
