The Western Health and Social Care Trust provides a range of health and social care services across the five council areas of Limavady, Londonderry, Strabane, Omagh and Fermanagh. The Trust area includes areas that have some of the highest indicators of economic deprivation and need in Northern Ireland and the Trust works closely with the 8 Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships based in the 5 Council areas.
Acute Services are delivered in Altnagelvin Hospital, Londonderry and the South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen. Tyrone County Hospital, Omagh is an enhanced local hospital providing a range of rehabilitation and palliative care services. Psychiatric hospitals are located in both Londonderry and Omagh. In addition, Lakeview, a learning disability hospital; Waterside Hospital, a rehabilitation facility; and Grangewood, an acute mental health inpatient unit are based in Gransha Park, Londonderry.
Many Trust services are delivered in community based settings with specialist back up and treatment from Trust hospitals, as well as directly to the person in their own home. A large number of these services are delivered in partnership with other organisations, both from the private sector and also community and voluntary sectors.
New initiatives include a cross-border Radiotherapy Unit which will be located at Altnagelvin Hospital and the construction of a new Enhanced Local Hospital in Omagh.
